BlueMelon (http://www.bluemelon.com), has once again stepped beyond the standard industry level of service by implementing a full featured blog. The blog features the standard blog functionality of posting with a workflow of managing drafts and published posts. The posts can be commented on and their content is of course formatted using a text editor.
Photographers can customize the commenting policy on a per-post basis and each post can be tagged by a set of keywords to aid categorization and visitor navigation. The blog supports the usual social sharing features such as a RSS feed, and sharing on facebook, twitter, and google plus - any of which can be disabled.
The main advantage of using an integrated service such as this one is that a single management is available for both functionalities, and the configuration needs to be done only once, while automatically propagating any future changes. The BlueMelon blog includes full support for features such as visitor registrations with the photographer’s account, the account-wide access password, full support for the build-in and custom themes including the fully customizable website template, the commenting system, as well as an easy-to-use integrated photo picker.
The blog also supports importing an existing blog or stream by accepting and importing a RSS feed. This way, one can not only import an existing blog, but can also simply convert a series of posts from a different form to a blog.
The BlueMelon CEO, Miroslav Liska explained for us the direction the service is heading : “BlueMelon is primarily a site for presentation of photos created for photography professionals and enthusiasts. We at BlueMelon feel that, nowadays, a photo blog is necessary for modern presentation of photography : this is why we are very pleased to offer one of the first solutions to integrate both services - the traditional photo sharing and the blog. Our next task will undoubtedly be to integrate both these parts even more tightly.”
All in all, the blog becomes a powerful tool for photographers, when integrated into the whole service, and is definitely a step forward on the way towards easy-to-manage integrated solutions for professionals. BlueMelon now makes it possible to upload and manage photos, create pages with a custom content, as well as post updates.
