Bust out your best retro gear and put on your dancing shoes for the first annual Swingabilly Bash with Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, Deke Dickerson, and Kit & The Branded Men. There will be contests for Best Guy/Doll Hair, Best Guy/Doll Outfit and Best Couple.
The Daddies brand of high-energy swing music has for years had the unique ability to bring generations together. It’s the only band around where high school aged Psychobilly scenesters and their grandparents can come together dancing in the same audience. As a result, the Daddies have an impressive range of popularity that makes them a hit with colleges, festivals, casinos and fairs. Onstage, the Daddies have enough of an edge to not come off as bland or plastic, and more than enough chops, class and style to satisfy any orthodox jazz fanatic.
Deke Dickerson is one of America’s musical treasures. As an entertainer and musician, he has toured the world and established himself as one of the foremost purveyors of roots music, headlining festivals from Las Vegas to Finland. As a writer and music historian, he is well known for his regular column in Guitar Player magazine and recently authored two enormous essay projects for Bear Family’s 2007 Merle Haggard box sets.
Kit and the Branded Men, are a honky tonkin’ country & western swing band out of the San Francisco Bay Area. Strumming her guitar and singing hits from the past and originals from today is the sweetheart of the bay area, Kit Lopez. You might stumble upon a waltz, 2-step, bopper or old timey tear jerker. Taking this act one notch above the rest is their harkening back to the classic duets, Kit Lopez and Glen Earl Brown Jr. deliver the songs in style of Loretta Lynn & Conway Twitty and Johnny & June Carter Cash.
