Glasgow, UK (PRWEB UK) 4 August 2012
Glasgow’s economy looks like it’s the up, with a record number of new companies being formed in the first six months of the year. There were 3568 companies formed during in first half of 2012, exceeding all previous half year records and smashing 2011’s half year tally of 3204.
Last year saw the Glasgow Economic Leadership Board launch a new 10-year strategy to boost the economy of the city. The strategy is based on the findings of the Glasgow Economic Commission, an independent group which issued a report after a nine-month consultation with city businesses.
Glasgow City Council leader Gordon Matheson said:
"Glasgow's economy has been a remarkable success story over the last decade with investment, growth and employment all rising faster than our competitor cities, and we clearly want that success to continue."
However, the economic strategy is not the only factor to boost the Glasgow economy. It has just been announced that filming for the new Hollywood movie The Fast and the Furious 6 will take place in the city later this year. And this is not a one-off event; Glasgow has been used as a location for many films, TV projects and adverts over the past two years, bringing in an estimated £20.15m in 2011. Movies that have filmed there include the new Brad Pitt zombie film World War Z and Cloud Atlas, starring Halle Berry.
Peter Valaitis, Managing Director of Duport.co.uk said:
“Glasgow is a thriving city with a plan for future growth, and the fact it is becoming a firm favourite with the film industry will only add to its economic success. Business start-ups here should be in a very strong position.”
Any new company setting up in Glasgow is sure to benefit from its thriving business centre, and if they’re lucky they may just bump into a Hollywood star.
