New business is growing in Dagenham

Dagenham is an extremely dynamic area that is already feeling the benefit of the Thames Gateway regeneration project.

Dagenham: In the heart of East London, a new record has been broken. Dagenham has seen 483 new companies being formed during the first half of the year, beating all first half years on record and showing a significant improvement on last year’s figure of 414.

The borough is at the centre of the Thames Gateway, the biggest regeneration project in Europe. Over the next 15 years up to 17,000 new homes and 10,000 new jobs will be delivered in the borough. Barking & Dagenham is one of the five Thameside ‘Gateway to London 2012 Olympics’ boroughs of east London, and is home to a diverse population of 165,000 that is expected to rise by more than a fifth over the next ten years.

The regeneration of the area provides many opportunities for business start-ups, who can also find support at the Barking and Dagenham Small Business Centre. The centre provides free business counselling, business training, and supports business start-ups and the expansion of micro- and small businesses.
