Cheap-Neckties.com, one of the best-known online retailers of men’s ties and accessories, just gave five actors their "Best Dressed Award". Michael Dounglas's Gordon Gecko and Colin Firth's George Falconer find themselves near the top of the "Best Dressed Film Characters of the Past Decade" list.
“At Cheap-Neckties, we’re huge film buffs, so it makes sense that we’d put together a series highlighting some of the best-dressed film characters of the past decade,” says Cheap-Neckties.com founder Hendrik Pohl.” The last ten years have brought to the forefront a great deal of incredible films, and given Hollywood’s penchant for fashion and style, it comes as no surprise that some of the leading roles are exceptionally well-dressed. We wanted to give these characters the respect they deserve and bring them back once again into the limelight.”
A variety of different types of films are highlighted in this series, ranging from blockbuster action films to subtle independant movies. Will Smith’s character Ageny J from Men in Black 3 is highlighted, for example, as is Ryan Gosling’s character Jacob from Crazy, Stupid Love. In addition, Michael Douglas’ character Gordon Gekko from Wall Street, John Slattery’s character Richardson from The Adjustment Bureau and Colin Firth’s character George from A Single Man all find themselves making the list.
“Not only are these some of the finest actors in the world, but the characters they portray are excellent examples of what style and fashion can actually do to push a film in the right direction,” says Pohl. “Without Richardson’s look in The Adjustment Bureau, for example, the character would never have been nearly as effective as he turned out to be. Fashion and style help to define film characters and make them who they are.”
This is far from the first time Cheap-Neckties has published a “best-dressed” list. In the past, the website has tackled everything from professional sports to the world of popular music, highlighting the best and worst-dressed candidates in their respective fields.
“Best-dressed lists are our bread and butter,” says Pohl. “While it’s surely all in good fun, we think it’s important to highlight individuals that really stand apart from the crowd. In order to be considered one of the best-dressed in your field, you’ve got to step things up and go above and beyond, which is exactly what the actors highlighted in this list have done.”
