NFI, a supply chain solutions provider based out of Cherry Hill, N.J. has been recognized as one of the Inbound Logistics 75 Green Supply Chain Partners (G75). More than 200 transportation and logistics companies completed questionnaires specifying their investments in sustainability. NFI has been included on the Green Supply Chain Partners for three consecutive years since 2010.

NFI has participated in the EPA SmartWay Transport Partner Program since 2004 and has been continuing to increase their sustainability efforts in numerous ways. From the trucks and trailers on the road, to their 70+ warehouses, NFI has been identifying and implementing ways to reduce their carbon footprint.

NFI has outfitted tractors and trailers – the NFI Fit Fleet - to increase their environmental friendliness. Aerodynamics, super single tires, speed governors, biofuel, synthetic oil, automatic tire inflation systems, among others, all play a role in helping NFI reduce carbon emissions and improve fuel efficiency. Earlier in 2012, NFI tested the use of natural gas with numerous trucks. In July, NFI announced that one of their California-based logistics operations was officially utilizing compressed natural gas trucks.

Founded in 2005, NFI Intermodal has been growing to provide a transportation solution that has the capability to double-stack not only containers, but also fuel efficiency. NFI Intermodal has already increased their capacity by more than 40 percent in 2012 alone. Other advancements include improved Refrigerated Container technology and increased payload weight.

All of NFI’s 70+ warehouses participate in their sustainability efforts. An extensive recycling program exists across all 21+ million square feet of their warehouses. The NFI headquarters operates solely on solar energy, which NFI Solar, their department dedicated specifically to solar energy, implemented in 2010. In addition to solar power, the headquarters is equipped with energy-efficient technologies including motion activated lighting.

In addition to the EPA SmartWay Transport Partner Program, NFI is also a member of the EPA Grow and Go Partner Program, EPA WasteWise, and the New Jersey Green Association.

NFI has received numerous awards including the EPA SmartWay Award, the International Communities Award Winner for Green Initiatives, and the Stevies International Business Award for Environmental Responsibility.
