Savings Put Renown on Track to Cover the Cost of MediClick’s Suite as They Exit the First 12 Months of Operation

Within the first three months of use, MediClick’s enterprise-wide supply chain savings solution has helped Renown Health target a 20% reduction of critical care products and compression sleeve expenses. This puts northern Nevada’s largest private, not-for-profit healthcare network on track to deliver savings that cover the total cost of ownership, including operating expenses, of the entire MediClick suite as they exit the first 12 months of operation.

At the heart of those savings is the quality data from MediClick for the Supply Chain, MediClick for Contracts & Analysis (C&A) and MediClick for Financials, an enterprise-wide supply chain solution that provides more benefits than Renown had envisioned when they were searching for a contracting tool.

“We had a very limited scope in our initial requirements for a contract management system,” states Gary Michaelree, Director of Materials Management at Renown. “MediClick expanded our horizons and identified areas we could enhance that went way beyond our original criteria.”

For example, C&A puts instant spend data at the users’ fingertips. In the past, it took hours for users to manually run spend reports and manipulate spreadsheets. In C&A, they type in an item number or search word and all of the detail appears in moments.

“I no longer have to rely on anyone else to provide me good data,” says Sharon Webber, Purchasing Manager at Renown. “I can be on the phone with a vendor and within a few keystrokes know what I’ve spent with them so I can negotiate quickly and easily.”

The availability of accurate, immediate data has resonated beyond the negotiating table and is now the foundation of Renown’s supply chain operations.

“We have a minor example that illustrates what MediClick has enabled us to do, but it’s sort of amazing,” says Michaelree. “When accounting called us about a month ago and wanted to identify our taxable versus non-taxable products, we were able to go into C&A’s UNSPSC data and have an answer for them in 10 minutes.”

The tool saved them at least one full week of research.

MediClick provides them with efficiencies on the purchasing side of the department as well. MediClick for the Supply Chain, for example, integrates directly with OR systems, eliminates the need for separate requisitions based on item type and allows for efficient bill only processing – something typically only found in healthcare.
