Roboscan Inc., developers of the internet security product Roboscan, announced that they have received a VB100 award from Virus Bulletin magazine, an independent tester of anti-malware products. The most recent Virus Bulletin publication, released in June 2012, tested 37 different security products on Windows 2008 Server R2 SP1.
The Virus Bulletin testing process examines the ability of the security products to identify malware samples listed by the WildList Organization. To receive the VB100 certification, products must detect 100% of active malware samples listed by the WildList Organization and must not generate any false positives. Virus Bulletin also checks the ability of products to identify novel viruses, a process called “proactive detection.” In addition, Virus Bulletin monitors system performance during the testing process to determine the speed and resource usage of the different products.
Roboscan received the VB100 certification, successfully identifying 100% of active “In the Wild” malware samples with no false positives. Roboscan’s sister product ALYac, designed to offer specialized protection for users in Asia, also received a VB100 award. It was the third VB100 award for ALYac, and the first for Roboscan.
Virus Bulletin noted Roboscan performed with “impressive scanning speeds” and “very low resource usage”. Roboscan showed a Busy RAM Usage increase of only 5.31% and a Busy CPU Usage increase of only 3.42%, both among the lowest of all competitors.
In addition, according to Virus Bulletin, Roboscan’s “detection rates in the RAP sets were excellent.” Roboscan received a RAP score of 92.6%. RAP sets combine both reactive and proactive identification, effectively reflecting a product’s ability to detect and accurately identify newly emerging malware and previously unknown malware samples.
Roboscan is available in both free and paid consumer versions, as well as an enterprise version called Roboscan Security Manager. To download Roboscan or to learn more about Roboscan Inc. and its products, visit http://www.roboscan.com.
