Ski Cross is one of the most extreme and exciting new snow sports around and Crystal Ski is proud to offer luxury ski holidays to Val Thorens in France, a resort hosting the Ski Cross World Cup for the very first time. Ski Cross has been around since the late 90s, and started in the U.S at the annual Winter X games and quickly grew in popularity, becoming a discipline in the world cup circuit in 2003 and making its first appearance at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver 2010, quickly becoming a crowd favourite.
Ski Cross essentially comprises in a real-time race between 4 skiers along a course incorporating slaloms, banked corners, moguls and large jumps. Qualification precedes the races, with only the fastest 32 skiers making the cut for the main event. Races take a heat format, with the two top placed skiers from each event going through to the next event until there are just four left in the final.
Val Thorens is not only the perfect place to host this adrenaline packed event, having hosted ski cross events previously, but also a great destination for a ski holiday 2013 with Crystal Ski. Val Thorens has the honour of being the highest ski resort on Europe, with 99% of its ski area being above 2,000 meters, this means great quality powder and more reliable snow fall than other similar resorts.
Offering 600km of run in total, and the highest ratio of open runs in Europe throughout the season, Val Thorens is a skiers paradise and with a wide range of accommodation, restaurants, bars, and other activities besides skiing including of course the Ski Cross World Cup, the ideal place to enjoy some snow this coming winter.
