More than 40 companies have signed on to take part in a Career Fair geared specifically for veterans and members of the military. These employers will be in Stamford on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 in order to recruit and interview to fill open positions at their companies.

Sponsored by southernctjobs.com, a division of Hearst Media Services CT, and Building and Land Technology (BLT), the event will take place at BLT headquarters, 100 Washington Blvd. in Harbor Point, Stamford from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event is open to all veterans and current members of the military. Pre-registration is suggested, and can be done by going online to southernctjobs.com or emailing CareerFair(at)hearstmediact(dot)com.

“We’re extremely proud of our veterans and military personnel, who have made such great sacrifices and have done so much for our country,” said Carl Kuehner III, CEO of BLT. “The Career Fair is the least we can do to help them start the next chapter in their lives.”

Among the more than 40 companies recruiting at the Career Fair are: Northwestern Mutual, Banker’s Life, Baker Concrete Construction, David Lerner Associates, Connecticut Business Systems, WWE, New York Life, Sears, Aerial Electric, Securitas, Norwalk Fire Department, U.S. Judicial Marshals, and Post University.

Additional companies are continuing to sign on in order to meet and recruit candidates with the proven skills and capabilities demonstrated by current and former members of our Armed Forces.

“Having so many employers recruiting candidates for a wide range of jobs at every level will really open up the door to new opportunities,” said Mr. Kuehner.

In addition to companies recruiting for employees, there will be two panel discussions on employment-related topics of interest to veterans. Speakers will include Vaesna Roeun, from the state Department of Labor’s Veterans Employment Workforce unit, Linda Cawley of Wounded Warriors, and Joe Carbone of The Workplace. Attendees will also have the opportunity to have their resumes reviewed and critiqued.

Representatives of the Save A Suit Foundation, whose “Soldiers to Civilians” initiative provides veterans with professional business attire, will also be in attendance.
