"We see enormous potential in their mission to make learning any subject easier for anyone at any age."

MindSnacks, the leading developer of educational games for iOS, announced today that it has raised $6.5 million from Sequoia Capital to expand its portfolio beyond language acquisition and test preparation. With over 4 million downloads, MindSnacks is expanding its subject offerings by hiring more engineers and designers.

“We’re thrilled MindSnacks selected us as their business partner,” said Bryan Schreier, partner, Sequoia Capital. “We see enormous potential in their mission to make learning any subject easier for anyone at any age.”

The current roster of 14 iPhone apps include many language-specific subjects such as Spanish, Mandarin and SAT Vocabulary. Forthcoming titles will cover geography, math, and other subjects.

MindSnacks believes learning should be fun -- regardless of the topic -- and differentiates itself from other instructional software by designing engaging games that drive long-term learning.

“While most educational products ask you to carve out an hour or so every day, our games make it easy to consume a few minutes’ worth of learning on the go,” said Jesse Pickard, CEO, MindSnacks. “This bite-sized approach makes learning easily digestible for people of all ages, and explains why people play our apps three times more often than other educational apps. This engagement, in turn, explains why each app consistently ranks as the highest grossing app in its respective subject.”

With over 50 thematic lessons, each MindSnacks app features 6 mini-games built around different skills. Combined with an adaptive curricular algorithm, these games ensure the quick mastery of vocabulary, concepts, grammar, context, and more.

MindSnacks’ SAT Vocab, French and 12 other apps are available now through the iTunes App Store. For more information, go to To watch videos about the games, visit
