The first complete collection under the stewardship of Creative Director Richard Bengtsson, Wolsey’s Autumn / Winter 2012 range is a diverse offer of refined menswear classics – modern designs inspired by the Wolsey archive.
This season’s collection has utility at its heart; the Great Outdoors a clear reference throughout. Outerwear features counter-weather detailing partnered with functional fabrics to provide warmth and protection.
Well-crafted knits are voluminous yet lightweight, textured in mohair yarns and silk mixes. Cable knits are spun in unexpected soft alpaca; the Fair Isle knits have been given a digital jacquard twist.
Wolsey’s archive inspiration is more evident with the shirting, available in chambray and vintage stripes. The range of trouser designs has been expanded; the washed moleskin trouser a key addition, inspired by the gunners of the World Wars.
A further seasonal highlight is the Made in GB package, a range of accessories entirely made in Britain. The offering includes leather wallets and bags, combination braces, and hand plaited belts. Contemporary considerations also guide the accessory designs with laptop satchels and iPad cases included as modern day essentials.
The brand’s premium Wolsey 1755 labeled pieces are inspired by film stars of the 60s & 70s, reflecting the unique style and alluring individuality of these cultural icons of the time. Knitwear is available in exclusive yarns and spun in rich fabrics such as lambswool, merino and alpaca blends. Waffle textures, slanted pockets and shell buttons offer a hint of vintage detailing.
Outerwear features classics such as the trench coat along with contemporary versions of driving coats and iconic biker jackets – all united by an extraordinary level of detailing. Performance is key to the range, with moleskin or resin coated fabrics offering resistance to winter showers, and shearling trims providing warmth.
Always celebrating its history but never simply replicating it, Wolsey’s commitment to developing contemporary design with outstanding detail will propel them to the forefront of British menswear, beginning with the Autumn / Winter 2012 collection.
