Kermit L. Krueger’s new novel “Guns of the Heart: When a Gun is Not Enough” (published by iUniverse) follows a gunfighter in the quest for his dream and shows how he discovers the true values in life.

Set in the rugged beauty of the Rocky Mountains and the mesa country in southwestern Colorado, “Guns of the Heart,” like many novels in the western genre, offers the appreciation of the landscape as though it were a character. What sets Krueger’s book apart from many of its contemporaries is his insistence on crafting a Christian-themed tale. “I wanted to give the readers a choice to have a wholesome reading that is free of foul language and excessive violence,” he says.

Bruno Turnbull is the titular gunfighter, and “Guns of the Heart” is his story, but no novel is complete without a full cast of characters. Turnbull’s romantic interest is provided by Kitty Duncan. It is Turnbull’s interactions with her, as well as his partner Clay Coffin and the outlaws led by Gil Davis that drive the book’s plot, and that plot leads Turnbull to the realization Krueger believes is at the heart of his story: the love of Christ.

Forty years of hiking, climbing and four-wheeling in the Colorado areas he writes about, as well as a lifetime’s study of local history, has uniquely qualified Krueger to write this novel, and that expertise with the landscape shines through the text.

“Guns of the Heart” is available now, in paperback or e-book, at major online booksellers.
