A record number of new companies is a great sign for Gloucester’s economy.
UK (PRWEB UK) 4 August 2012
Gloucester: Gloucester has enjoyed a record-breaking start to the year with 407 new companies being formed between January and July, more than any other first six months on record. The figure also represents a healthy increase on the 369 companies that were set up during the same period in 2011.
The recently-released list of Top 100 Companies in Gloucestershire brings further good news to the area. Topping the list are financial companies, closely followed by manufacturing and engineering firms. The number one company, St James’s Place Wealth Management has recorded a 2011-2012 turnover of £5.200 billion - £1.6 billion more than the previous year. Engineering company Spirax Sarco is at number two, with 1000 employees and a turnover leap from £589.700 million to £649.991 million over 12 months.
Ian Mean, Editor of The Citizen, the local newspaper that publishes the list said:
"Since we launched the first Top 100 Businesses supplement in 2005, it has become the barometer of the county’s economy.
"And despite some pretty turbulent times, it is interesting to see the Gloucestershire companies who have weathered the storm.”
Managing Director of Duport.co.uk said:
“A record number of new companies is a great sign for Gloucester’s economy. The local council does a great job of providing business grants and free advice for business start-ups, which is clearly attracting new companies to the area.”
With so many new companies being formed in Gloucester, there may be some fresh contenders for the Top 100 Companies in Gloucestershire List in years to come.
