Dorland Health, a leader in healthcare publishing, was named a winner in the 2012 Apex Awards Competition for Publication Excellence. The Apex Award, in category of “Microsite & Individual Web Page,” highlighted the Urology Health custom publishing portal that features clinical articles about issues affecting urologic health and offers continuing education credits.

Our goal in partnering with UroMed was to bring people together on issues with regard to some of the top (urological) conditions that cause readmissions, and complications that comprise quality of life.

The winning award demonstrates excellence in e-publishing. The winning microsite is a culmination of the Apex Awards’ large competition, which drew approximately 3,400 entries across a range of 11 publishing categories.

The Urology Health web page, available online at, was created to educate and increase awareness about the urological complications that can occur in lifelong conditions such as spina bifida, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis and neurogenic bladder. The Dorland Health editorial team worked together with leading professionals to develop articles that would address these conditions and highlight strategies that professionals can implement into their practice to prevent setbacks and life-threatening complications that can put the patient at risk.

The project was developed with support from UroMed, one of the nation’s leading providers of single-use catheters, urological and disposable medical supplies, including intermittent catheters, closed system catheters, condom catheters, pediatric catheters and continence care products.

“Our goal in partnering with UroMed was to bring people together on issues with regard to some of the top (urological) conditions that cause readmissions, and complications that comprise quality of life," said Anne Llewellyn, editor in chief of Dorland Health. "The articles brought these challenging conditions to mind so healthcare professionals can be aware of them while working with the patient at the point of care."

In addition to the microsite, an e-newsletter was created to share the information to professionals involved in care coordination. Strong waves of feedback for the articles showed the need for information in this area. Continuing education was also a benefit.

The recognition of being named an Apex Award winner demonstrates the excellent work from the Dorland Health editorial and e-media development team and their ability to produce and deliver relevant content to members of the care coordination team. To learn more about Dorland Health, visit
