AACSB Bridge Program Prepares Corporate Executives for the Classroom

In today’s climate, academia faces the challenge of finding qualified professionals with the valuable insights students need to understand the rapidly changing business environment—and AACSB successfully bridges this gap.

The AACSB Bridge Program is an intensive five-day program that provides the skills, training, and guidance necessary to reduce faculty shortages at AACSB Accredited business schools. The program increases the pool of highly-qualified professors with significant, relevant business experience.

On June 8, 2012, the AACSB Bridge Program, hosted by The Ohio State University, Fisher College of Business, graduated the following professionals from a variety of business fields: John Baker, Timothy Baker, J. Richard Browne, William Burtch, Joe Collazo, Enrique Cordero, Clinton E. Day, Edemar J. Dal Maso, Curtis L. Dean, Susan Dull, Joyce Gordon, Kevin Humphries, Jon Kathe, John Lewis, Terri R. Livingston, Carol MacPhail, Suzanne Mintz, Lawrence O’Brien, Renee Scudder, Lisa L. Spooner, Christopher Vanover, Jay Waddell, Douglas Wride, and Ashley Yu.

“We congratulate the AACSB Bridge Program graduates on their recent achievements and wish them success in their new functions as business school faculty members,” said John J. Fernandes, president and chief executive officer of AACSB International. “The program is consistent with AACSB’s efforts to ensure that there is a rich pipeline of qualified professionals, beyond business PhDs, who can bring their expertise to the classroom and educate effectively.”

To be eligible for the program, applicants must be actively participating in the field, with 5–7 years of extensive industry experience, having no more than two years full-time teaching experience. Individuals are carefully selected to ensure they will have a powerful impact in the classroom and meet the requirements for a professionally qualified faculty member at an AACSB-accredited institution.

Since its inception in 2006, hundreds of executives have successfully completed the program—from Fortune 500 organizations such as The Coca-Cola Company, Ernst & Young LLP, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cox Communications, and British Petroleum (BP). Many of these executives now serve as valued faculty members at business schools throughout the world.
