Financial illiteracy has cost this country a great deal.
Huntersville, NC (PRWEB) August 06, 2012
Huntersville-based Lesemann & Associates, PLLC Certified Public Accountants congratulates Managing Member J.A. (Jay) Lesemann, Jr., CPA, CGMA for becoming the 2012–13 Chair of the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA).
Lesemann has worked for 25 years with both small organizations and multi-national companies whose annual sales range from $100,000 to $2 billion and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role and his clients. One of his firm’s goals is to promote the education of North Carolinians on the benefits of taking control of their financial futures.
“Whether buying a home, starting a business, or paying off debt, financial literacy is the first step to gaining control over your financial future,” states Lesemann. He advocates, “With money comes responsibility and when individuals and businesses alike don’t take control of their finances, they end up letting others dictate how their lives will be.”
Lesemann argues that financial illiteracy has cost this country a great deal. “Unpaid bills, bankruptcy filings and the exponential rise in credit card debt have grown not only because of the downturn in the economy, but mainly because of the lack of financial planning.” With savings rates at an all-time low and personal bankruptcies at an all-time high, many families are living paycheck-to-paycheck, beyond their means and are turning to high interest rate credit cards to supplement incomes. According to Lesemann, “It’s an alarming but reversible trend that begins with education.”
Through efforts of his firm and in conjunction with and alongside the NCACPA financial literacy initiatives, Lesemann has stressed the importance of continuing efforts to educate teens and young adults through coordinating with academic institutions and sponsoring school workshops that provide valuable money management lessons. “Many teens don’t know what to do with their money except spend it. It is critical to teach them about how to plan, save and create financial freedom now while they are young, so they don't have to learn the hard way.” Lesemann says that a great place for anyone to start, especially young adults, teens and tweens is the AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants) website http://www.FeedThePig.org where they can play money games, sign up for weekly emails and connect through Facebook, MySpace & Twitter.
Lesemann, whose firm’s slogan is “For Individuals and Companies on the Cusp of Change,” enjoys collaborating with and educating clients for success. “It’s a challenge to help others get past distressing times in their lives, but I enjoy teaching and the rewards that come from knowing I’ve helped someone take charge of their financial life’s picture.”
