Accutane: severe adverse effects threat

Plaintiffs blamed Accutane for their bowel disease and they were awarded $9 million each in damages

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) August 09, 2012

The media spotlight is often a double-edged sword. No one knows this better than Kathleen Rossitto, Riley Wilkinson and people who suffer from Accutane Side Effects. And yet, gossip and rumor-mongering aside, the real story here is being overlooked according to Sean Burke of AttorneyOne.

As Bloomberg reported on June 30th 2012, a New Jersey jury ruled that Hoffman-LaRoche must pay $18 million in damages to two former Accutane users, Kathleen Rossitto and Riley Wilkinson (case no. ATL-l-7481-10-MT and ATL-L-1311-08-MT). Accutane (isotretinoin), manufactured by Hoffman-LaRoche, Inc., is a popular acne medication introduced in 1982. Plaintiffs blamed Accutane for their bowel disease and they were awarded $9 million each in damages.

In 2009, as the number of lawsuits against Hoffman-LaRoche kept increasing, Accutane was pulled from the US market. In a 2008 trial, Kamie S. Kendall, who accused Accutane for her ulcerative colitis, was awarded over $10.5 million by a jury (case no A-73-2010–066802).

AttorneyOne.com, a recognized authority on law, can provide helpful advice and simple solutions including how to get in contact with legal counsel so that, in case of severe adverse events from Accutane, someone can easily and inexpensively deal with it. As Mr. Burke, director of Media Relations for AttorneyOne.com, added, “What all this information really illustrates is that threat from Accutane remains. For that reason, our focus should squarely fall on getting the word out and assisting people in finding the right legal assistance.”

Results of the study published on the American Journal of Gastroenterology in September 2010 showed that ulcerative colitis is associated with previous isotretinoin (the active ingredient in Accutane) exposure. Higher dose of isotretinoin seems to augment this risk.
