NIU Marketing Students Get Hands On Experience With Local Company, Ideosity Inc.

This fall, students in the NIU Interactive Marketing Program will have the opportunity to get real world experience by working with local Chicago based Enterprise Web development Company Ideosity, Inc. The semester long project will focus on both search and social marketing.

Senior students enrolled in Marketing 470 Marketing Technology, at Northern Illinois University will be assigned a semester long search and social marketing project. The course is taught by Dr. Debra Zahay-Blatz who is also the Professor of Interactive Marketing at NIU. Ideosity has helped fund the project and has also donated to the department itself.

The project guidelines include choosing a company and presenting a plan using Google AdWords to drive traffic to landing pages. Students also will present a plan for one additional channel: social media, email, viral, SEO, or direct mail. They must also analyze their results. Ideosity will be one of the companies students can choose for their project.

Students will present to their classmates, Dr. Zahay-Blatz, and the company they choose this fall at various points throughout the semester as it correlates with the schedule of the project. Ideosity will be present to hear the presentations.

The AdWords campaign they propose will run for a three-week period and the additional channel will run for five weeks.

A hands-on course like this isn’t new to the Department of Marketing or to the students. Dr. Zahay- Blatz stated, “We have done similar project based courses [like 470] and this gives us a chance to give the students a real life learning experience. Students will learn to plan, implement and measure the results of search and social marketing campaigns or whichever additional channel they select. NIU really is ‘Where the Classroom Meets the Business World’.”

This is a great chance for Ideosity to create a relationship with the University and the Department of Marketing in the College of Business. Rich Dase, one of the Founders of Ideosity stated, “We are glad to be working with this great institution that is just down the road from us. We are every bit as happy to help the program as we are to receive help from them.”
