After years and years of research and hard work LNR Industries received a patent for the “A” clamp in 1995. Though by receiving a patent it did not mean all towns were on board with the idea of putting the “A” clamp into their building codes. One town that took that chance was the town of Newfane, NY.
The Town of Newfane, NY introduced the “A” clamp into their building codes on October 27th 2004. The Town of Newfane created a program that concentrates on sewer repairs. Over the past six to eight years they have installed 35-40 “A” clamps a year. “The “A” clamp is the best thing invented for securing vent pipes and cleanouts,” said Mike Mills (Town of Newfane, Water Department Superintendent).
The Town of Newfane has seen many good results after installing the “A’ clamp. On one of their pump stations they saved approximately 72,000 gallons of ground water from entering the sanitary sewer system in a 24-hour period. On another they saved approximately 200,000 gallons of ground water also in a 24-hour period. As a result of saving this ground water from entering the sanitary sewer system it allows the wastewater treatment plant to run at their normal operations and reduces bypassing operations. “In my professional opinion if installed will drastically reduce the amount of influent infiltration into the sanitary sewer systems. Eliminating influent infiltration will have a two fold effect, first it will increase the useful life of treatment facilities and secondly it will reduce the amount of tax dollars spent related to maintenance, new construction and clean up,” said Martin Enselit (Town of Newfane, Chief Operator, Wastewater treatment facility).
As the Town of Newfane is benefiting from installing the “A” clamp, LNR Industries is still pushing from town to town to help other towns and municipalities reap the benefits like the Town of Newfane has over the years.
