Internationally exhibited artist Flynn Geissel began her art career in the unlikely profession of psychology. Serving two masters, the artist studied painting and psychology, completing a doctoral degree in counseling psychology. Discovering a wealth of artistic material in the study of dreams, the unconscious, and the healing stories of many cultures, the artist moved further into art as a life calling. Flynn’s work has been exhibited in two American museums, in London UK, and regularly on the New York art scene.
The current exhibit showcases a series of paintings that draws upon the artist’s life experience as a psychologist. Flynn conducted individual interviews with adult women who experienced trauma as children. Interviews investigated the healing process and passage toward wholeness. She then made an installation to represent themes in each woman’s healing journey. Canvases are exhibited with biographies and quotes from each woman’s process toward resilience. Flynn states, “The exhibit is an homage to the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity. It affirms and celebrates transformation.”
Curator Melissa Metzler described Flynn’s work as a “stunning” addition to the exhibit.
