UK (PRWEB UK) 7 August 2012
Derby: Derby has enjoyed an encouraging start to the year with a record number of new companies being set up in the first six months of 2012. 991 companies were set up, beating any other first half year on record and representing a significant improvement on 2011’s half year tally of 856.
Local employer Rolls-Royce bought further good news to the area last month with the announcement of a better-than-expected half-yearly rise in profits. The company, which employs over 12,000 staff at its Derby plant, achieved profits of £637 million between January and July, a 7 per cent rise compared to the same period last year.
Unilever, which has a factory in Burton, also announced a rise in half-yearly profits and a rise in global sales.
For business start-ups who want to follow in the footsteps of local manufacturing giants, there is the Derbyshire Enterprise Agency, run by the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce. The agency offers valuable advice and mentoring, as well as workshops and networking events. They also offer managed workspace to new businesses.
Managing Director of Duport.co.uk, Peter Valaitis said:
“The record number of new companies in Derby is a promising indication for the rest of the year. There are signs of economic growth in the area that certainly bode well for the future of business in Derby.”
The next Rolls-Royce or Unilever could be amongst the new companies set up in the Derby this year – exciting times may well be ahead for the area.
