The US India Political Action Committee (USINPAC) strongly condemns the shooting at the Oak Creek Gurudwara (Sikh Temple) near Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and mourns the deaths of the seven victims. Thirty people were also injured in the incident that took place during morning prayers. According to the New York Times, law enforcement agencies are calling it an an act of "domestic terrorism."
“The Sikh community is a very peace loving community that has contributed tremendously to the American society. They have been victims of racial attacks especially after 9/11. There is a need to educate the society and we would be glad to assist with any measures taken towards the same,” said Mr. Sanjay Puri, Chairman USINPAC, regretting the intolerance in society that this incident brings forth once again. The Milwaukee area has over 2,500 Sikh families that worship at two gurudwaras in the area. The attacked gurudwara was founded in 1997 and has a 400 member strong congregation.
