A media campaign coupled with personalized follow-through with each prospective foster parent is extremely innovative. We are excited to partner with RaiseAChild.US to maximize its campaign to provide a solution to such a pressing societal issue.

Today, California Institute of Contemporary Arts (CICA) signed on as a “National Sponsor” of RaiseAChild.US, a non-profit organization that encourages LGBT people to build their families through fostering and adoption. Its campaigns recruit and support prospective LGBT parents while putting images of LGBT families into public spaces through PSAs, print media and outdoor advertising.

According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services’ Administration for Children & Families, over 107,000 children in the foster care system are available and waiting to be adopted. Beyond that number, there are 300,000 more children in need of immediate foster placement. Certified families are in short supply.

Over the past 18 months, RaiseAChild.US has run three campaigns in Los Angeles, engaging over 500 prospective parents, with 400 attending recruitment events. Its upcoming campaign in November, National Adoption Awareness Month, will target major markets across the U.S. on both coasts.

Founded in 1994, California Institute of Contemporary Arts (CICA) promotes the arts and supports efforts to teach respect and understanding of diversity.

Rich Valenza, Founder and President of RaiseAChild.US explains the two components of the campaign. “The public will see the media roll-out: PSAs, ads in magazines and newspapers and outdoor billboards and banners featuring real LGBT foster and adoptive families. Behind the scenes, though, we are tracking and supporting the RaiseAChild recruits and connecting them with social service agencies eager to train, certify and match them with waiting children.”

“A media campaign coupled with personalized follow-through with each prospective foster parent is extremely innovative," says Tom Reise, CICA’s Board President. “We are excited to partner with RaiseAChild.US to maximize the education potential of its campaign while providing a solution to such a pressing societal issue.”
