Based on the statistics released by the CDC, the city of Nashville ranks third in the United States currently with regards to the death rate for drivers between the ages of 15 and 24 with a specific rate of 22.7 per 100,000 people in the population. The only cities in the United States with higher death rates for drivers within this age range are Birmingham, Alabama and Jacksonville, Florida in order.

This death rate has contributed to the overall number of fatalities that have resulted from Tennessee car accidents. So far in 2012, more than 600 people have been killed in Tennessee auto accidents according to statistics released by the Tennessee Highway Patrol. This statistic represents 60 percent of the annual average number of people killed in these crashes, which currently sits at approximately 1,000 people.
