Exciting time in agency's fifty year history

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area (BBBSBA) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Katherine M. Bella as the mentoring organization’s Chief Executive Officer.

Katherine brings more than 30 years’ experience in the nonprofit sector to BBBSBA. She has a 25-year history of successfully working in philanthropy in the Bay Area, with hundreds of millions of dollars raised. She has a commitment to working with low-income and disenfranchised populations, with a particular background in working with organizations focused on at-risk youth such as Planned Parenthood, Omega Boys Club, YMCA of the Mid-Peninsula, and Youth Power.

"We are thrilled that Katherine will be joining our organization after an elaborate nationwide search," said Board Chair Tom Keiser. "Her ability to forge new partnerships and develop effective relationships with donors, along with her deep knowledge of mentoring, will allow Katherine to immediately contribute to the success of BBBBSA.”

Ms. Bella will focus heavily on increasing fundraising capacity for the agency while actively working to reduce the current list for children awaiting an adult mentor. BBBSBA currently has 750 children waiting to be matched.

“I feel that the CEO position at BBBSBA is a perfect culmination of my professional and life experiences to date. It gives me an opportunity to use my educational background and professional experience as a board member, executive director, chief development officer and consultant to change children’s lives for the better. BBBSBA is such an incredible organization with a simple mission that plays itself out in incredibly powerful ways. We have an opportunity to offer that special mentoring relationship, and all that it includes, to an ever larger group of our Bay Area’s young people,” said CEO of BBBSBA, Katherine Bella.

Ms. Bella holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Development, a Master’s of Social Work, a UC Berkeley Haas School of Business Executive Leadership Program certificate, and is a Certified Fundraising Executive.
