Oprah Winfrey interviewed Rihanna for her show Oprah's Next Chapter to be aired on August 19th, 2012.
(PRWEB) August 07, 2012
Totally Barbados observed that while Rihanna was content to relax and party, for Shontelle it was more of a working trip.
On Kadooment day (August 6th, 2012) a casually dressed Rihanna was on Spring Garden Highway liming with friends and enjoying the last lap for Crop Over.
Last year she was one of the costumed revelers jumping and wining on the road from the National stadium to Spring Garden.
This time around though, the Grammy award winning singer was among the spectators sporting a simple black and white cap with its peak turned backward and large dark sun-glasses.
If that was her attempt to be inconspicuous it clearly failed, as evidenced by the many cell phones that were whipped out by fans to take videos and pictures of her as she passed by.
This was nothing new for the 24-year-old celebrity. In fact she had found herself getting even more attention during the preceding days when she was spotted in the company of Oprah Winfrey, whose visit gave the songstress a chance to show off her island and its many attractions in Barbados.
The talk show sensation was not there just to sightsee though, Oprah Winfrey interviewed Rihanna for her show Oprah's Next Chapter to be aired on August 19th, 2012.
Oprah has already posted online a picture of her and Rihanna as they left the upscale Sandy Lane Hotel, one of the more notable properties among Barbados' wide range of accommodation.
While Rihanna was keeping her visit home low-keyed for the most part, the other local star, singer and song-writer Shontelle was making a splash.
On the night before Kadooment she headlined Cohoblopot, a massive soca party that is one of the biggest events on the Crop Over calendar.
Held at Kensngton Oval, the star-studded show attracts thousands of locals and visitors and lasts well into the morning. It is organized by the state-owned National Cultural Foundation, the producers of the festival.
Shontelle's near hour and a half long performance received a mixed reaction though from the soca-loving crowd.
The party-goers really only responded to her hit R&B single T-Shirt and soca tune Colors, which she sang with local artiste Natahlee.
Much of the excitement on the night was generated by the other acts, which were the hottest local soca bands and artistes of the season, including Krosfyah, Soca Kartel, Mikey and Lil Rick.
They literally lit up the stage at some points with fireworks as part of their presentations.
When it was all over at about two in the morning some of the patrons, not quite ready to go home as yet, headed to the nearest night club to continue partying in Barbados.
