Walk Out! Former Corporate Attorney Walks Across America With Rescue Dog, Raises Money for No-Kill Animal Shelters

Chicago area corporate attorney Tyler Coulson did last year what many dream of but few accomplish: he left his corporate career and walked from Delaware to California with his rescue dog, Mabel.

Coulson began walking from Rehoboth Beach, Delaware on March 11, 2011, and he and Mabel reached the Pacific Ocean at San Diego’s Dog Beach on November 8, 2011. He kept a blog at http://www.tylercoulson.com.

“It was a difficult thing,” Coulson said. “But the adventure, the challenge of it, the excitement—it was worth it.”

He wrote a memoir about the adventure and his time in the law called By Men or By the Earth, which is available in paperback and in a Kindle edition at http://www.amazon.com and available by hard copy here Amazon.com. Readers have described the book as a “brutally honest” memoir about one of the world’s most challenging hikes, and about the undying love between a man and his dog. Coulson posted many pictures of Mabel and of the trip at his blog at http://www.tylercoulson.com.

Chicago-based independent publishing company The Walkout Syndicate published By Men or By the Earth and has pledged 10% of all profits from books sales between August 1 and December 31 of 2012 toward support of no-kill animal shelters.
