Calls for Customer Satisfaction: Employers Demand CRM Skills in Job Candidates

Recruiters posted more than 58,000 online job ads for customer relationship management (CRM) skills, growing 22% year-over-year, according to WANTED Analytics™.

During July, more than 58,000 job ads were available online that required customer relationship management (or CRM) skills in the United States, according to WANTED Analytics™ (http://www.wantedanalytics.com), the leading source of real-time business intelligence for the talent marketplace. Hiring demand for CRM skills has been strong in 2012, growing 22% year-over-year in July and about 56% over the past two years. This growth in hiring indicates that organizations are building more robust CRM systems to track communications both offline and online, and need their employees to build and use these programs, in addition to providing excellent customer service.

CRM skill sets are required across many positions, with technical, sales, and marketing occupations leading demand. Positions with the highest demand for CRM in July were Computer Systems Analysts, Computer and Information Systems Managers, Marketing Managers, and Sales Managers. In addition to customer service skills, employers commonly require other knowledge and experience, including:

1. Microsoft Office
2. Microsoft PowerPoint
3. Adobe LifeCycle ES
4. Business development
5. Project management
6. Management consulting
7. Salesforce CRM
8. Oracle PeopleSoft
9. Application management
10. Oracle E-Business Suite

CRM skill sets are most frequently advertised for jobs located in the New York metropolitan area. During July, more than 4,600 job ads in New York included these skill requirements and grew more than 14% over the past year. Other metro areas with high demand for these skills were Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, and Washington, DC. While employers in New York placed the highest number of job ads for this talent pool, one of the highest year-over-year growth areas was actually Chicago where demand grew more than 32% since July of 2011.

As hiring demand continues, the limited talent supply of potential candidates that have CRM knowledge or experience will create challenges for employers. Each location will, however, experience a varying degree of difficulty when sourcing. According to the Hiring Scale™, Recruiters across the United States spend an average of 6 weeks advertising jobs and sourcing candidates for these positions. Recruiters in Washington, DC are currently experiencing some of the most challenging overall recruiting conditions. Fierce competition has emerged as more employers are looking to fill jobs in this area than the local talent supply can support. Employers in the DC metro area are likely to experience a longer time-to-fill than other areas across the United States.

In comparison, the Hiring Scale also shows that the best markets for recruiting these skills are Dalton (Georgia), Olympia (Washington), and Scranton (Pennsylvania). Lower hiring demand in these areas, coupled with larger talent supply, means that Recruiters are likely to fill job openings in as few as 4 weeks.
