Getting involved with Magee's Wheelchair Sports Program helps people with disabilities heighten independence while reaching for personal health and wellness goals.
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) August 08, 2012
The Magee Freedoms wheelchair tennis team, sponsored by Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, will host the Magee Wheelchair Tennis Tournament August 10-12 at the Cherry Hill Health and Racquet Club in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. This annual tournament brings together the Mid-Atlantic Region’s top wheelchair athletes, with all entry fees benefitting the Magee Rehabilitation Hospital’s Wheelchair Sports Program.
“This is a day the Magee Freedoms look forward to all year,” said Troy Eap, former Magee patient and captain of the Magee Freedoms. “It’s an opportunity to not only bring together the top wheelchair tennis players from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and beyond, but it also allows us to raise awareness for Magee’s Wheelchair Sports Program, an incredible initiative that allows all locals with physical disabilities to participate in adaptive sports.”
The tournament is first match losers consolation, and is open to men’s singles and doubles entrants. The first match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 10. All entry fees generated by this event go directly to the Magee Wheelchair Sports Program.
Magee's Wheelchair Sports Program includes not only tennis, but rugby, basketball, racing and other sports as well. Getting involved with Magee's Wheelchair Sports Program helps people with disabilities heighten independence while reaching for personal health and wellness goals. In addition to experiencing the excitement of competing, Magee's Wheelchair Sports Program allows people with disabilities the opportunity to improve fitness and overall health though physical activity, adapt to disability through interaction with peers and role models, and increase self-esteem and confidence. Though some athletes in the program compete at an elite level, Magee welcomes all individuals with disabilities looking for a recreational outlet.
