On August 2, 2012, at the San Marino Club in Troy, Michigan, Mothers Against Drunk Driving held an award ceremony to honor all law enforcement officers from each agency in Michigan. The Lifesaver Luncheon is an annual event held by MADD, where law enforcement officers are awarded for their arrests in drunk driving offenses and their dedication and commitment to combating the problem of drinking and driving. Sponsoring the event was the Michigan drunk driving accident lawyers of Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C.
Many officers from Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne counties along with MADD members, survivors, and individuals who have lost a family member or friend due to a Michigan drunk driving accident attended. Hosting the ceremony was Fox Two News anchor, Ron Savage.
The lawyers at Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. were also invited to speak at the awards luncheon. Buckfire Law Attorney Robert J. Lantzy spoke on behalf of the top rated law firm. Not only does the Michigan personal injury law firm frequently sponsor MADD events, but for two consecutive years been the State of MADD Michigan Sponsor and the top fundraising team for MADD’s signature fundraiser event, Walk Like MADD.
“As a personal injury law firm, our car accident lawyers specialize in representing victims of drunk driving crashes. Every day we see the devastating injuries and trauma to victims and their families as a result of these crashes. Victims of drunk drivers do have legal rights and Buckfire & Buckfire is here to help them. Our sponsorship and involvement is our commitment to support MADD in its efforts to make our roadways and highways safer, protect Michigan residents and eliminate drunk driving throughout our state," says Partner and Attorney Lawrence Buckfire.
With over 350 people attending and Fox Two news coverage, the Life Saver Awards ceremony turned out to be a success and showed the impact of how much our law enforcement is going beyond the call of duty to do all they can to take impaired drivers off our roadways.
Since MADD launched its Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving in 2006, significant improvements have been made to reduce the number of drunk driving accidents, but there is still plenty of work to be done. Updated figures reveal that drunk driving costs the United States more than $132 billion annually. In addition, of the 10,839 people killed in 2009, 181 were children under the age of 15. More than half of them were passengers of drunk drivers. Based on a recent MADD report, the organization rated the nation a three stars out of a five star scale, based on the average of the state ratings. This shows future measures need to be implemented to better protect drivers and prevent more fatal and serious injuries in Michigan car accident.
The Buckfire & Buckfire drunk driving accident lawyers were a happy to be involved in such a ceremony and will continue to promote awareness and support for MADD's mission. The firm is dedicated to eliminating drunk driving accidents and specializes in representing victims of drunk driving accidents in Michigan.
