New York, NY (PRWEB) August 07, 2012
Jon Schuyler Brooks, co-chair of the environmental practice group at Phillips Nizer LLP, was selected as the new Chairman of the Environmental Transactions and Brownfields Committee (“ETAB”) of the American Bar Association’s Section on Environment, Energy and Resources. ETAB is the largest committee in the Section, with more than 1,000 members.
“It is a great honor to be chosen for this position,” said Brooks. “Environmental law increasingly impacts real estate and business transactions. ETAB’s broad mandate encompasses all issues that may arise in such transactions, including: private due diligence and public disclosure; owner, operator and lender liability; indemnification and insurance; remediation and redevelopment of contaminated properties (also known as brownfields); financing; and syndication of environmental and/or renewable energy tax credits.”
In 2011, Mr. Brooks was selected as a “Super Lawyer” in environmental law for the New York Metro Region. He advises businesses and individuals from across the country and around the world on environmental aspects of corporate, financial, and real estate transactions, and represents them in environmental and commercial litigation matters. For the better part of a decade, many of his clients have been developers and property owners seeking help with the remediation and redevelopment of brownfields into residential, retail, commercial, and mixed-use projects. As an outgrowth of his prior role as founder and president of Cirrus Resources Inc., he also works with companies and entrepreneurs to develop, structure and fund green technology and renewable energy projects.
Mr. Brooks frequently is asked to speak around the country on environmental issues. Previously, he served as Chair of the New York State Bar Association’s International Environment Law Committee.
Mr. Brooks is a graduate of Tulane University School of Law, where he served as Articles Editor of The Maritime Lawyer. During law school, he was named “Best Oralist” in the United States in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Northwestern University.
