Long Beach, CA (PRWEB) August 09, 2012
During the months of June and July, Orozco’s Auto Service invited the local community to write checks for $42 to Homeless with Dogs and get a free oil change for providing the donation or apply the $42 donation to other automotive repair services.
The Orozco’s Auto Service team went out into the community and passed out flyers, they went to the dog beach down by the Belmont Plaza pool passing out flyers, the team went to the local businesses passing out flyers and some of those businesses allowed the flyers to be posted.
Orozco’s Auto Service presented the monies raised to Homeless with Dogs at Orozco’s Auto Service at 3619 Atlantic Avenue, Long Beach, CA on Monday, August 6, 2012 at 6:30 pm. The funds were presented by the CEO of Orozco’s Auto Service, Servando Orozco, to the principals of Homeless with Dogs: Liz Reyes, Co-founder and Patricia Zaid, Co-founder. Chad Robbins, the Executive Marketing Director was unable to attend the presentation.
After the monies were presented, Councilmember James Johnson presented a certificate to Servando Orozco from the City of Long Beach to Orozco’s Auto Service for “honorable efforts to improve the quality of life in our community.” An additional certificate from the City of Long Beach was given to Mr. Orozco from Daniel Brezenoff, Legislative Director from the office of Councilmember Robert Garcia. Orozco’s Auto Service found Homeless with Dogs after tweeting about looking for a worthy organization to help. Mayor Bob Foster tweeted that his office should be contacted. A phone call to the Mayor’s office led to Councilmember Robert Garcia’s office where Daniel Brezenoff, Legislative Director for Councilmember Garcia, promised to share information about great local organizations that could use some help. Out of the organizations that Mr. Brezenoff provided, Homeless with Dogs was chosen as the organization that would receive the proceeds from the fund raiser.
From Patricia Zaid, Co-founder of Homeless with Dogs about a trend the organization has been seeing: “We have seen changes in our clients to the degree that more dogs (and cats) are getting displaced from what was intended to be their “furever” homes but now are getting locked into foreclosed homes and / or tossing their dear pet companions out of car windows while they abandon them. The homeless are rescuing them as in turn the animals are giving the homeless love and companionship and protection. It is a two way street.”
