Bobby Glam recently conducted a survey amongst a range of women to find which hairstyle is the most popular for formal events. The survey of 100 females found that the classic bob cut came out on top as favourite, with 20% of the vote.
Made famous in Britain’s swinging sixty’s by Vidal Sassoon the bob cut brought a wave of chic and contemporary fashion and with a recent resurgence from celebrities such as Sienna Miller, Madonna and Rihanna, this makes a perfect hairstyle to be unique whilst still looking sleek and uniformed. With its history dating back to the sixty’s its not surprising that the age group who were around in the 60’s backed the bob. Of all the voters for the classic bob 35% were 55+ years old, with only 7% being in the age group 18-34.
Coming in at a close second, was a more glamorous style, loose curls. A more recent hairstyle, loose curls have been made popular by teenage idols such as Taylor Swift, Beyoncé Knowles and Jessica Simpson. With the increase in home hairstyling kits and tools, loose curls and similar curling styles have been more attainable without having to be styled by a professional. This looks likely to become very popular for formal events like weddings and christenings because of its elegance and glamour factor. Again this is emphasised in the age groups of the women we surveyed with 30% of the total loose curl vote coming from females aged 18-34.
Elle-jay from Bobby Glam says:
“We have seen a huge increase in long hair extensions, especially for weddings and celebration events; these work so well as temporary extra length for curling and styling.”
The third most popular style for a formal event with 15% of the vote was the classic and stylish French twist, made popular again in the 1950’s. This style has been revived by a resurgence in 50’s American culture with sitcom’s like Mad Men and Desperate Housewife’s, and celebrities such as Katy Perry, Coleen Rooney and Kylie Minogue bracing the retro style. Again it’s no surprise that the majority that voted for the French twist were in the 35-50 age group with 18.2% of the total vote for French twist, looking for sophistication and style as well as majority.
Some of the lesser performing hairstyles to feature in this poll were the fishtail plait with only 8% of the vote. Wearing a fringe, which although popular with stylists and celebrities alike only encouraged 6% of the vote and the more recent 80’s revival backcombing style made popular by the likes of Sarah Harding and other girl bands with only 2% of the total vote.
It is said that you will never get a second chance to make a first impression, and studies show that the human brain takes a matter of seconds to make judgement, therefore making a lasting impression is always one of the forth most priorities at a formal event. So to conclude, choosing the right hairstyle can be a really important decision.
