The Coaching Institute, the most prominent training institution for life coaching in the Australasian region, provides hope for today’s struggling workers by offering personal development courses to help individuals overcome the latest decline in employment optimism. This decline in market employment is evidenced by data from the newest study by Manpower Group this year. The recently released study shows that of over 2,200 employers surveyed, only 20 per cent are expecting to increase hiring, a proportion that is much lower than last quarter’s 24 per cent. Overall, the study places Australia’s Net Employment Outlook at +10%, the lowest the country has seen since 2009.

Ellen Hutchison, General Manager of The Coaching Institute, explains that personal development courses can alleviate problems in the employment market in two ways; employers can develop more efficient work habits in themselves and their employees as well as create and sustain positive relationships and attitudes in the workplace; while job seekers can be empowered with more desirable habits and thinking to better equip themselves for the workplace. Ms Hutchison believes that such courses give job seekers a much-needed boost in morale and equip them with the right attitude and mindset that make them desirable for work. Moreover, personal development courses can even open up to them one of the most rewarding career paths: life coaching.

Many people, however, are still left in the dark as to what these courses are really all about. When asked “What is personal development?” Ms Hutchison offers the following reply:

“Personal development essentially includes techniques that improve your sense of awareness and identity, develop your talents and potential, enhance the quality of your life, and contribute to the realisation of your dreams and aspirations.”

The Coaching Institute offers a variety of programs designed for personal development, such as two-day seminars like “Personal Power” and “Create Your Extraordinary Life”, or accredited training to become a certified life coach. The school also offers instruction on Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), an approach to personal development that places emphasis on the relationships between neurological processes, language, and learned behaviours. NLP helps people by allowing them to take control of these three elements in order to achieve specific goals in life. All of these training programs are geared towards assisting people in comprehending the science and structures behind the decision-making process, as well as helping students let go of personal setbacks and overcome limitations.

Training with The Coaching Institute, according to Ms Hutchison, not only provides means for individuals to help themselves; these sessions also give them the expertise and wisdom to help others as a career:

“Life coaching is now one of the fastest growing professions in the world, and the demand for qualified life coaches in Australasia is growing each year,” she states.

The methodologies and principles taught by The Coaching Institute can truly help Australia’s growing population of unemployed workers, whether they are used to empower them to be more desirable employees or create the foundation for a rewarding career as life coaches. Ms Hutchison leaves today’s struggling applicants with a hopeful message:

“We ALL face challenges and crossroads in life. Sometimes it's when our backs are against the wall, when we see the very best version of ourselves. There is a way, there is always a way, a better way right now to change direction and start something completely new and rewarding.”

The Coaching Institute runs introductory courses in Life Coaching and NLP and offers accredited Life Coaching courses (Provider No.21564) with national accreditations in Certificate IV in Life Coaching (22065VIC) and Diploma of Life Coaching (22063VIC).
