The RetailMeNot Austin Marathon Relay to benefit Junior Achievement opened the adidas Sub2 Challenge earlier this year and registration is still open. The adidas Sub2 Challenge is taking place as part of the Relay on Sept. 23, 2012, challenging teams to complete the Relay in less than two hours to be eligible to win $100,000. Registration for the adidas Sub2 Challenge and general race registration is open on the RetailMeNot Austin Marathon Relay registration site.
Participants of the adidas Sub2 Challenge follow the same course as the Relay with a common exchange point at Auditorium Shores, and legs run in the following order: 12K, 10K, 10K, 5K and 5K. In the event two Challenge teams post identical times, the team that registered first for the race wins the $100,000.
Junior Achievement of Central Texas, a non-profit organization, holds the RetailMeNot Austin Marathon Relay, the non-profit’s largest fundraiser, each year to raise awareness and funds for its local youth financial literacy program. All proceeds from the 2012 RetailMeNot Austin Marathon Relay benefit Junior Achievement of Central Texas, providing educational resources to teach students about personal finance and economics of businesses through local business and community volunteers who partner with classroom educators.
adidas is also sponsoring the adidas High School Challenge (HSC) for the second year in a row, inviting 26 high school teams to sign up for the Relay using “adidashsc” in the promo code box to receive complimentary race entries, racing singlets, technical training t-shirts and footwear provided by adidas.
“adidas is a great advocate for this race, and we are excited again to partner with them on the adidas Sub2 Challenge and High School Challenge,” said Dave Swincher, race director and president of Junior Achievement of Central Texas. “We can’t wait to see some of the fastest runners in the world run with our high school students and our relay teams made up of every day runners. The relay really brings the running community together; it is going to be an amazing day for everyone.”
