XpressConnect Meets the Challenge at Sevenoaks School

“The network isn’t working,” and “it’s too difficult to get on the network.” That’s what Simon Jiggins, IT Services Manager heard repeatedly from students at Sevenoaks School once they had deployed WPA2-Enterprise, the most secure wireless network available. The school faced the challenge of configuring various student and faculty devices so they could easily access the wireless network with minimal IT intervention.

The Challenge
Sevenoaks School, one of England’s leading coeducational independent schools, understood that part of meeting the needs of their day and boarding students meant providing an easy-to-use, secure, and reliable wireless network for everyone, based on their needs. Once the new WPA2-Enterprise network was deployed, however, connection was not as easy as expected. Students were directed to follow complex steps to configure their devices in order to access the network. They soon became frustrated and ended up in the queue for the IT Service Desk. It became clear to the school’s Director of Information Systems, Sarah Williamson, that students often couldn’t access the network on their own.

The Solution
The search began for a solution to the problem of configuring the various student and faculty devices for the new wireless network. The Result
With XpressConnect Wizard, secure wireless connectivity is now a breeze for students at Sevenoaks School. “I used to go around apologetically to each of the seven boarding houses at the beginning of the term and tell the students to be patient with getting connected to the network,” Williamson says. “After the integration of XpressConnect, I just touch base with the boarding houses, and they’re all a happy bunch!” With the XpressConnect Wizard deployed, Sevenoaks is confident it will be able to handle the rapid growth in wireless utilization driven by the BYOD movement. While the number of devices on the network continues to grow, the number of Service Desk calls is decreasing. Williamson sums it up nicely: “XpressConnect has been a success!”
