On August 9th, 2012 the social media marketing agency fishbat reacted to the problem actress Ellen Page is having on her Twitter account. The actress, famous for her roles in Juno, Whip It, and Inception, has been receiving malicious tweets and death threats on her Twitter account, @EllenPage.
The Los Angeles Police Department has gotten involved and is working alongside Twitter to figure out who is behind the antagonistic tweets. TMZ was able to obtain a copy of the search warrant that the LAPD sent to Twitter, to gather information about the accounts responsible for these offensive tweets. One of the tweets to Page reads, “Ellen Page if you continue to date Alexander [Skarsgard] I will K-1-L-L you in public in the next year ... Be it in a club, at a game, in a restaurant, or when you're signing autographs."
Sida Li, social media director at social media marketing agency, fishbat, says, “Social media has given fans more access to celebrities than ever before. Often this leads to great interaction and fans feeling closer to their ‘idols’ than ever before. In this case, you are seeing the dark side that social media can sometimes present.”
The malicious tweets to Page have since been deleted from Twitter. The LAPD is continuing their investigation.
