A field mouse has soft gray fur and a long tail and large ears. They are speedy runners and are great cheese lovers. They love the opportunity to get in anyone’s kitchen. They really are not dangerous unless you try picking them up and then they will probably bite you, hoping you might taste like cheese.

She arrived in the kitchen and to her great surprise, a little gray mouse was running very fast across the floor. She could not help squealing loudly as she was very frightened. What can she do?

Martha Lee Brannock remains a “Tar Heel”, having grown up in Lexington, North Carolina. She was educated at Salem College, High Point University and the University of North Carolina with a degree in Early Education and Psychology. She is an avid ACC basketball and football fan, as most North Carolina folks are. For thirty one years, she taught hundreds of first graders in North Carolina and Georgia with joy and love.
