We are excited to help bring new life to this beautiful structure and add another unique element to this world-class hotel and convention center facility.
Lancaster, Pa. (PRWEB) August 09, 2012
The William H. Montgomery House — a striking, early 19th-Century, Federal-style structure, the exterior of which was rehabilitated as part of the integrated Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square and Lancaster County Convention Center — will soon undergo interior renovation.
The building’s first three levels will feature flexible, well-appointed, distinct, environments for meetings, receptions, dinners, and other special events. The fourth level will be a versatile, private hospitality quarters for uses such as a bridal salon and speaker lounge.
The interior renovation of this landmark facility, which is on the National Historic Register, is being led by a public/private partnership of the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Lancaster and Penn Square Partners. The two entities worked in tandem to rehabilitate and integrate the exterior of the circa 1804 structure prior to the hotel and convention center facility’s opening in 2009.
Mark Fitzgerald, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Penn Square General Corp., said, “We are excited to help bring new life to this beautiful structure and add another unique element to this world-class hotel and convention center facility. The exterior of the Montgomery House is an architectural gem and its doors will soon be opened to an equally impressive interior.”
Interstate Hotels & Resorts, the manager of the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square and Lancaster County Convention Center facility, will also manage the Montgomery House. The facility will be available by reservation for special meetings, dinners, weddings, receptions, and other occasions.
Josh Nowak, Interstate’s director of sales and marketing, said, “This is another milestone for the Montgomery House and this magnificent facility. Repurposing this historic mansion for event utilization provides us with another unparalleled offering that adds to the charm of this landmark gathering place.”
The project, estimated to be more than $1 million, is being partially funded by a state grant obtained by the Redevelopment Authority through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program administered through Pennsylvania’s Office of Budget. Penn Square Partners, as the Redevelopment Authority’s authorized representative, is currently developing the project schedule.
High Construction Company is serving as construction manager and Lancaster-based Hammel Associates Architects, LLC, is designing the facility.
About the William Montgomery House
Incorporated into the new architecture of the Lancaster County Convention Center and Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square on South Queen Street in Lancaster, the William Montgomery House is part of a dramatic block-long interior street that incorporates historic 19th-Century structures into the facility. The circa-1804 mansion is regarded as one of Lancaster's finest Federal-style residences. The home was built for prominent local attorney William H. Montgomery and remains the only documented local work by Harrisburg-based architect Stephen Hills, who also designed the first Capitol building in Harrisburg.
The exterior of the building was returned to its former elegance by the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Lancaster and Penn Square Partners during the construction of the hotel and convention center facility, with its re-pointed original brick walls and stately marble window sills. Viewing the rear of the Montgomery House from inside the facility reveals a delightfully unexpected presentation of its bowed rear exterior, which originally contained a rare elliptical parlor.
