Dahn Yoga Foundation, a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization established to put Dahn Yoga principles into action and expand the Dahn Yoga commitment to community well-being, shares Part One of the inspiring story of outreach in Nicaragua by Dahn Yoga Instructor, Rebecca Wheaton.
An annual family visit to Nicaragua early this year has turned into a lifelong dream come true for Wheaton. “I have always known that I wanted to go international and offer Dahn Yoga classes in Nicaragua,” Wheaton explains.
Recognizing work at hand within the community to deal with the stresses as many young people cope with living in foster care communities and the staff strive to manage loving care for the youth, Wheaton shared the benefits that Dahn Yoga practice can offer.
Wheaton’s inspiring story of Dahn Yoga Outreach began as a volunteer yoga class at Aldeas Infantiles SOS center earlier this year and has been very well-received by the community. Her work in two different locations has expanded to offer regular classes geared toward ‘at-risk’ adolescent girls, pregnant teens, and youth with a history of drug abuse, as well as staff.
“I had dreamed of this…how do you create a Dahn Yoga center without walls? The outreach that I have been able to develop here is the fruition of that idea, where participants would be drawn in who could become committed to the practice and share the experience and benefits of Dahn Yoga,” she comments.
Worldwide, Dahn Yoga practitioners work to share the benefits of Dahn Yoga practice with their neighbors toward bettering communities. Approaching every activity with a sense of responsibility to the larger community, projects like Wheaton’s outreach in Nicaragua touch many lives. And, with a vision to be instrumental in creating a healthier and more peaceful society, many more dreams may come true.
