In his thriller novel “Slobberknocker” (published by AuthorHouse), native Floridian and author Rick Johnston takes cues from his favorite Florida authors to deliver a story of adventure, excitement and rock and roll.
Pickens Lee is living a quiet, productive life in Florida, playing in a rock band and enjoying each day. But his tranquil world is turned upside down when his best friend and band mate, José Arana, gets mixed up in a dangerous series of events involving identity theft, a crooked real estate broker, marijuana grow houses and murder.
An excerpt from “Slobberknocker”:
“This was going to be tricky business, going back to the scene in broad daylight. It was his screw up, leaving the glove, and it was his to remedy the situation. He had to take his own car. Dress like a tourist, camera in hand. If someone asked, he would act confused, lost, looking for an address or maybe act like a potential buyer for real estate. Yeah, it was going to be tricky alright.”
When Lee and his friends discover a football-shaped silver object while fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, their lives are further complicated in ways they had never dreamed possible. Now they are on a race for their lives, staying one step ahead of the mob and a mysterious government entity as they carry the object through the islands of southwest Florida to the mountains of North Carolina. It is a story of friendships and long held beliefs that are challenged by events beyond their control.
