Explore Tibet, a Lhasa-based Tibet tour company, is currently promoting trips to Holy Mt. Kailash in western Tibet. They offer trips from 13 to 20 days, including a photography tour.
“Mt. Kailash is sacred to Hindus, Buddhists, and Bon,” Explore Tibet said. Pilgrims travel from all over the world to circumambulate the mountain and erase the sins of a lifetime. Our spiritual trekking tour combines visits to Tibet’s most important cultural sites with the natural beauty of the Tibetan Plateau and the Himalayas.”
Kailash’s 6,174-meter snow-capped peak stands prominent over the Barkha Plain, flanking the sacred lakes Manasarovar and Rakshas Tal. The distinctive shape of its four-sided summit stands stark against the Gangdise mountain range, also called the Trans-himalya. This area is source of four of the longest rivers in Asia, the Indus, the Sutlej (a tributary of the Indus), the Karnali (a tributary of the Ganges), and the Brahmaputra. The remote, pristine location, along with these singular geographic features makes it easy to understand why Tibetan Buddhists believe Kailash to be the center of the world.
There are still several restrictions for Tibet travel. Citizens of the UK, Norway, Korea, Austria , the Philippines and Vietnam cannot get permits at this time. And currently no foreign groups are permitted to visit the Mt. Everest base camp. Groups are allowed to drive to the border town of Zhangmu and view Everest and the Himalayan range from the village of Old Tingri.
Explore Tibet is a locally-owned travel agency committed to responsible tourism, Tibet travel permit and sustainable practice.
