We need to realize that we are the stars of our lives. It’s okay to like celebrities, but let’s not let them outshine our own worthiness in life.

Overcoming Celebrity Obsession (published by iUniverse) is not the average celebrity obsession therapy book. Authored by Diane Saks, herself once celebrity obsessed, the book takes a personal approach towards walking readers through the signs of celebrity obsession and through proven remedies.

In recalling her own bouts with celebrity obsession, Saks remembers learning every detail of her beloved stars (David Cassidy and John Travolta were among her favorites). She learned every hobby, the names of relatives, close friends and pets, and even the makes and models of their cars.

When Saks realized her obsession was damaging her real-life relationships, she began researching this often misunderstood disorder. In Overcoming Celebrity Obsession she details how overcoming the disorder can be achieved in three steps.

“Overcoming Celebrity Obsession is a three phase journey from celebrity obsession to a fulfilled life,” says Saks. “It’s a new and caring way of dealing with celebrity obsession. It tries to get the fan to understand her obsession in her own way that fits who she is and not some cookie cutter mold.”

Phase one of Overcoming Celebrity Obsession guides readers through recognizing the signs of celebrity worship, particularly when a story character version of the celebrity is created. Phase two of the book guides readers towards understanding why the obsession was created, and phase three of the book shows readers how to overcome their obsession and reestablish themselves into their real lives.

Saks is passionate about this three-prong approach and sees it as a breath of fresh air for those suffering from celebrity obsession.

“I am sensitive to the needs and identities of fans,” says Saks. “We need to realize that we are the stars of our lives. It’s okay to like celebrities, but let’s not let them outshine our own worthiness in life.”
