Popdust.com, the largest website dedicated exclusively to pop music, announced today that former RollingStone.com editor-in-chief Nick Catucci will be joining the company as Deputy Editor. Catucci will report directly to Popdust co-founder and editor-in-chief Craig Marks. In addition to his experience overseeing RollingStone.com, Catucci has served as a senior editor at ARTINFO, New York magazine (NYMag.com) and the VillageVoice.com. His writing has appeared in Rolling Stone, Spin, Blender and Maxim magazines.
“Nick brings to Popdust a wealth of experience, skill, thoughtfulness, and creativity,” said Marks. “I’ve long admired his insights as a music critic and his prescience as an online editor. Nick has an unnerring knack for creating the kind of vibrant, viral content that web users crave, and he'll be an enormous asset as Popdust continues its ascent as the premiere online destination for pop-music fans.”
“I'm delighted to join the talented crew at Popdust,” said Catucci. “They not only love and understand pop music, but have taken its key lesson to heart: Life should be fun. The web is the greatest place to share the excitement that stars and their music generate. Popdust is purpose-built to plug fans directly into their passion, and amplify that energy.
Popdust recently announced the redesign of its site, Popdust.com, the first of many enhancements, according to new CEO Hugh Panero. In addition, the company has launched its Spotify app, Lifetracker. These announcements come on the heels of the company closing a $4.5 million Series-A fund raise led by New Enterprise Associates with participation from other leading venture capital firms RRE Ventures, Softbank Capital and international investment firm and company builder Project A Ventures, along with several prominent individual investors.
Popdust has grown to 1 million unique monthly visitors and announced plans to launch an e-commerce offering dedicated to the huge fan base inherent in pop music. In March, Popdust introduced Popdust Style, its online retail store where music fans shop for clothing, shoes, jewelry and accessories. The inaugural collection of fashion and accessories was curated by Epic Records recording artist Karmin.
Popdust focuses an expert music-centric lens on the artists creating and performing the biggest songs in the country. Since launching in 2011, Popdust has already reached over 1 million unique monthly visitors composed of young, influential music fans who obsessively follow stars like Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and Rihanna. The management team is led by new CEO Hugh Panero, former CEO and Founder of XM Satellite Radio; David Wade, Co-Founder/President; and Co-Founder/Editor-In-Chief Craig Marks, former top editor of SPIN, BLENDER and BILLBOARD.
