DeskAlerts, developers of a unique web-based desktop alert solution, have announced the release of a completely new RSS add-on. The latest addition to the DeskAlerts platform means any RSS enabled source can deliver news, headlines and videos directly to the desktop of selected computers, users and groups.

DeskAlerts CEO, Vassily Salomatov said, “The RSS feed add-on is a powerful tool for business, giving corporations the capability to turbo charge their internal communications, increasing productivity and driving down costs. This add-on also makes it quick and easy to keep all employees in the loop without relying on email, by providing fingertip access to corporate news as well as updates from selected internal and external sources.”

The RSS feeds can be embedded into a range of RSS enabled sources including SharePoint and Exchange documents, web pages and blog posts. Entries are published as either prominent desktop alerts or scrolling tickers using the online desk alert system. The publisher of the feed is given complete control over who sees what information via DeskAlerts group settings –news, videos and headlines can be fed to all members of the Active Directory or pinpointed to specific computers, users and groups. A validity period for each RSS channel can also be manually set, meaning the notification is only available between specific dates. This feature means posts can be easily scheduled to coincide with important dates and events such as meetings, seminars or conferences.

The add-on supports RSS 1.X, RSS 2.X and RSS ATOM feeds and new RSS entries are checked every five minutes by default.

The DeskAlerts platform was developed as an alternative to email communication for large corporations. With email messages rendered useless during network failures and overzealous spam guards, DeskAlerts guarantee that critical information is transmitted in a timely manner. As a one-way web-based alert notification system, the platform delivers measureable operational efficiency with on command report facilities to track each recipient’s alert activity.

Combining flexibility and ease of use with comprehensive security features, the RSS add-on is the latest in a series of innovative new additions to DeskAlerts. Other new features include cloud hosting, command line API tools and a screensaver add-on.
