The Professional Patient Advocate Institute Announces the 2nd Annual Patient Advocate Conference in Orlando, FL - 12/7/12

This dynamic, interactive one-day conference offers professionals involved in patient advocacy the chance to network with colleagues, discuss practice-related challenges and hone their advocacy skills.

On Dec. 7, the Professional Patient Advocate Institute, in partnership with leading healthcare media publisher Dorland Health, hosts its 2nd Annual Patient Advocate Conference at the Renaissance Orlando SeaWorld® in Orlando, Fla.

The day-long interactive learning event is designed for both independent patient advocates and professionals employed by hospitals, managed care companies and other settings throughout the continuum of care. The conference will shed light on the emerging practice of patient advocacy, provide education to like-minded advocates, and promote a culture of clinical and professional competencies that will improve the health and welfare of clients.

“Advocates are in a key position to assist consumers in ensuring access to safe, quality, cost-effective healthcare. Their work is aligned with principles of the Affordable Care Act – to engage consumers in actively participating in their health and healthcare,” said Conference Chair Anne Llewellyn. “No containment strategies will work until we assist consumers in understanding how to navigate the complex healthcare system and ensure they have a voice in their care. Patient advocates are in the prime position to meet these needs.”

The conference features keynote speaker Trisha Torrey, a leader in the practice of patient advocacy who has been instrumental in providing tools for professionals seeking to grow their practice as well as educational tools for stakeholders about the value patient advocates bring to the diverse and complex healthcare system. Torrey will be joined by a diverse faculty with expertise in the practice of patient advocacy who will share real-world examples that will aid advocates in their practice.

The Patient Advocate Conference – the first event of its kind to bring advocates together from different settings – provides a platform for advocates to interact, share ideas and gain information and takeaways to improve their practice and empower patients as they struggle to transition through the complex and diverse healthcare system.

In addition to the interactive conference, The Professional Patient Advocate Institute will present the Patient Advocate Certificate Workshop on Dec. 6 in the same location. The onsite workshop provides a learning opportunity for those who want to increase their knowledge of patient advocacy in a live setting. The workshop can be taken by those who want to earn a Certificate in Patient Advocacy or as a stand-alone educational opportunity, worth 11 hours of continuing education credits (CEUs).

The Professional Patient Advocate Certificate Workshop will be held Deb. 6, 2012, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Patient Advocate Conference will be take place on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 from 8 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Both events will be held at the Renaissance SeaWorld® in Orlando, Fla.
