Students attend short term, hands on training in Phlebotomy to boost job prospects

Jenna Libby, a Human Biologist student at the University of Southern Maine says she chose to attend Northeast Technical Institute (NTI) because they are known for their intensive short-term certification programs as well as their job placement assistance. “I am currently working towards my Human Biology degree at USM and have no medical background. Right now, I am working in the food industry, so I chose to come to NTI to get myself into the medical field as soon as possible.”

Over the past year, enrollment at NTI has risen, but it’s not just the unemployed/underemployed and job changers who are enrolling at the school. “In an increasingly competitive job market, gaining an advanced skill set and earning national certification gives NTI graduates the competitive edge they need for employment. And those graduates also include fulltime students who are attending other schools and Universities”, said Jim Liponis, President of NTI. “In only weeks or a few months, students can graduate from NTI and leave us with the marketable skills they need to secure a good paying job while continuing their studies somewhere else”.

Shelby Bryne, a Veterinary Technician student at the University of Maine, is also attending NTI’s Phlebotomy/EKG program. “I wanted to have phlebotomy under my belt to increase my chances of being hired. This training will provide me with long and short term job security”, Shelby said.

Northeast Technical Institute, with campuses in Scarborough and Bangor, is a nationally accredited school and offers Federal Financial Aid for those who qualify. With its short-term, hands-on approach to training, NTI graduates are job-ready, may earn national certification and are prepared to meet the industry's overwhelming needs and demands for qualified professionals.

The school offers in-demand training for a range of medical programs, including Medical Assistant, Medical Lab Assistant, Medical Coding and Billing, Phlebotomy, Information Technology (PC Repair, Network Administration), HVAC/R and CDL Truck Driving. Classes start each week or month for most programs.
