Santa Barbara, CA (PRWEB) August 16, 2012

TrueVision® 3D Surgical, the world leader in computer-aided microsurgery, demonstrated its revolutionary 3D technology before more than 100 eye specialists at the recent American Optometry Association (AOA) conference in Chicago.

TrueVision’s team of Dr. David Friess, Director of Clinical and Regulatory Affairs, and Mark Maire, Vice President of Sales/North America, led the first full 3D educational demonstration of its kind before the AOA.

The TrueVision 3D Surgical Visualization System is a real-time, stereoscopic, 3D high-definition visualization system that attaches to microscopes to display the surgical field of view on 3D flat panel displays in the operating room. The advanced technology is used for microsurgery and to stream live video of the surgical field, making it an unparalleled teaching tool.

During a unique full 3D educational symposium featuring a panel of experts in 3D vision, Dr. Friess and Mr. Maire gave a live demonstration on two volunteer patients of TrueVision’s 3D slit lamp technology, a ground-breaking instrument for examining and imaging eyes. As part of the demonstration, which included live 3D video capture and immediate playback, a third-year optometry student successfully operated the system before the audience. In addition, all of the speakers’ PowerPoint presentations were shown in 3D, and the audience viewed a recorded 3D video of cornea, cataract and retina surgeries.

The AOA, which represents roughly 36,000 doctors of optometry, students, and technicians, focuses on improving the quality and availability of eye and vision care. With the dramatic increase in the use of 3D technology in theaters and homes, the AOA has made a priority of educating the public about 3D vision problems.
