Author, and leadership coach Marilyn R. Orr asks readers “When was the last time you gave yourself more maintenance time than you gave your vehicle?” In her new book, “How Absorbent Are Your Shocks?: Everyday Resiliency Tools” (published by WestBow Press), she gives those readers the tools they need to find the best answer to that question, and do any necessary life maintenance.

With a combination of coaching tools, questions with relevant stories and easy-to-relate-to analogies, Orr’s book offers readers a chance to break away from the growing stress of everyday life and take stock. She wants them to be able to answer the questions “Am I happy? Do I need a tune-up? Are my breaks starting to squeal?” With the answers to these questions, Orr believes readers will be able to start effecting positive change in their lives.

When asked about her book’s appeal, Orr has a perfect answer: it’s practical. “It is bite-size reading with practical action steps,” she says. “I am not trying to fit my ideas on to your life. The reader is asked questions to be able to generate their own action plan that fits their life, their circumstances, their strengths. It is easy to pick up for 20 minutes and make some progress with.”
